Corporate Responsibility

Community Interests
The value of social responsibility, either individually or collectively, has been recognised throughout Oman’s history, and more structured programs for endowments and zakat were introduced when the country embraced Islam in 630 AD. So for more than 1,400 years charity has been at the heart of Oman’s society.

Major organisations throughout the world now realise that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an important part of a company’s operations, because of its positive impact on society, which in turn impacts positively on staff members and the general public.

The Zubair Corporation is committed to exploring avenues where it can introduce CSR programs to help society, while keeping a low profile to ensure the focus remains on the cause and not on the company.

In addition to having established a number of facilities that offer education, such as the Fire and Safety College and Bait Al Zubair Museum, The Zubair Corporation also provides annual scholarships in a range of fields for students to study abroad. The scholarships are awarded to Omanis who demonstrate potential and a drive to succeed, and recipients are given assistance in selecting suitable universities, as well as having their expenses covered. In addition, on their return to Oman after completing their education, they are offered jobs within the Corporation.

The Zubair Corporation has supported many community activities, has built and renovated mosques and homes, organised fund-raising functions to help those in need, either in Oman or abroad, and worked in partnership with local charitable organisations to assist in improving the environment, introducing health and education programs and supporting children and others in need. It also recognises and encourages the passion for sports among young Omanis by sponsoring a number of events.

Bait Al Zubair Foundation was established in 2005 as the social and cultural arm of The Zubair Corporation to manage arts and cultural interests through Bait Al Zubair Museum and to oversee the distribution of charitable donations within the community. Bait Al Zubair Museum hosts and annual art exhibition to promote young Omani artists from which the proceeds of sales are donated to Dar Al Atta’a (House of Giving), which is dedicated to helping the underprivileged and needy across the Sultanate.

Along with many companies in Oman, The Zubair Corporation responded rapidly and practically to support families affected by the adverse weather conditions that swept across parts of the Sultanate in June 2007.

The Corporation supports new initiatives introduced by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estats and actively contributes to social causes such as blood donation campaigns, walkathons and cancer awareness programs, among others.

Good corporate governance is at the core of The Zubair Corporation’s philosophy. Every month, the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Shareholders meet informally with employees and long-serving staff are recognised and awarded for their service and dedication. The Corporation is also aware of the less fortunate in society and is actively pursuing a number of new initiatives, including offering employment to those with handicaps.
